If you're weak in classical & midevil ages, you're likely to lose every match. And it doesn't count toward your W/L ratio, if you care about that. Smaller and smaller spires flank its sides giving the temple a unique look, making it a structure that can easily be identified even during an intense battle. A solo game w/ 0 enemy nations is boring, but it's a good way to quickly practice the first 5 - 10 minutes of the build order. The focal point is the Main Shikhara, which rises 30 meters above the inner sanctum.

Hundreds of sculptures and frieze patterns cover the walls of these stone buildings. These temples, built between the ninth and tenth century are considered amongst the most beautiful in India. When it came to designing the temple, one building could not properly represent all of India and Persia, but for visual reasons we decided to emulate the temples at Khajuraho. We repeatedly used the chhattris (a gazebo-like structure) to accentuate the corners of many buildings while drawing on the curving bangle style of roof common to many Indian/Persian buildings. Our objective was to incorporate elements of specific Indian/Persian buildings while still allowing the structures to easily be recognized by the player. The Indian/Persian building set was where we decided to begin. The first step, as in the original Rise of Nations, was to research the style of each culture and try to synthesize that architectural feel into the buildings we were creating.

We knew that there would be some challenges, considering the diversity of the architectural styles and the time constraints we had, but we knew that the results would be well worth the extra work involved. For the Rise of Nations expansion pack, Thrones and Patriots, we wanted to create some exciting building art to represent all the new cultures that were being added to the game.
